
The latest retailer tip in the great iPhone 5 release date conjecture game of 2011 sees Best Buy pegging the long-rumoured handset for a 21 October release.The tip comes by way of This Is My Next, which received a screengrab of a memo that details an early start time on that date, in an event titled “Apple Fixture Installation”.
According to the anonymous source, the same kind of out-of-the-ordinary timings were put in place for the iPhone 4 retail release. Season of mists and Apple rumoursThat doesn’t mean we’ll necessarily be waiting until late October to get our first glimpse of the iPhone 5 – we fully anticipate Apple to launch the handset a good four weeks before it hits the shops. So that means that, if Best Buy’s 21 October date is accurate, we could see an iPhone 5 launch take place in late September as has been predicted by myriad other anonymous tipsters over the last few months. Then again, myriad tipsters have suggested pretty much every date from June 2011 to January 2012, so we’ll have to just sit tight and see what Apple does. As for the 21 October release date? It could happen. It might not happen. But until Apple sends out a ‘save the date’ media alert, an anonymous source is as good as anything else we’ve got.
