World’s first MeeGo netbook by Fujitsu

It hasn’t been a terribly good week for MeeGo, but there’s a scant silver lining in the cloud — the first MeeGo netbook has arrived in Singapore, courtesy of Fujitsu. Actually, to be precise, it’s the first netbook to ship with MeeGo preinstalled, as Fujitsu’s simply shoehorned the lightweight operating system onto its existing LifeBook MH330 machine. Sadly, the MH330′s about as boring as they come — it’s a plain vanilla 1.66GHz Intel Atom N455 ultraportable with 1GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and a 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 LED-backlit screen. [...]

Laptops Acer Aspire One D255

It was only a matter of time before Acer let out the pricing / availability details on its dual-core Atom netbook, and as we could have predicted, the Taiwanese company’s smacked an extremely enticing pricetag on this one. Ringing up at an aggressive $329.99, the 2.2-pound D255 looks almost identical to the D260 — yes, even those with the worst of cataracts could tell it’s an Aspire One from afar — but in terms of specs it’s got that notable difference of a brand new dual-core Atom N550 processor. But not to worry, even though it’s now the cheapest dual-core [...]

250GB Kinect Bundle

Microsoft’s controller-free Kinect platform is getting a 4GB bundle that comes with an Xbox 360, 4GB of memory, a Kinect sensor, a game and a controller. That doesn’t look like the only bundle. The Australian packaging for the 4GB bundle shows what appears to be a 250GB bundle that comes with a 250GB hard drive and a headset. The console in the 4GB bundle has a matte finish, while the console for the 250GB bundle has a glossy finish. The packaging for the 250GB also notes this, “Hard Drive includes game and demos.” 250GB Xbox Kinect bundle spotted on 4GB bundle packaging [...]

The New Xbox 360 Is Small and Black

It’s smaller, has more ports, runs quieter and costs the same: $300. It has a 250GB hard drive and built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi. They’re shipping the new Xbox 360 to retailers today. (They’re sending out one for free to everyone here, supposedly). Update: Here are some detailed specs. • Touch sensitive on/off and eject buttons (like the PS3) • “Much quieter” • 250GB internal hard drive, which is still swappable. • A custom Kinect port (not the standard USB port) • There are five USB ports now, with three in the back and two in the front • AV cable included, [...]

Viewsonic Mini-PC

ViewSonic has announced U.S. availability for its new handy VOT125 mini-PC. Coming with a quartet of ultra-low-voltage processor options from Intel to help cut down on power draw and benefiting from Windows 7 Home Premium, its petite dimensions may well see the unit being squeezed into the tightest nook of limited home and office space. ViewSonic is obviously hoping to tap into the eco-friendly home/business computing market, as they note that the VOT125 “uses up to 90 percent less plastic and consumes up to 90 percent less energy than traditional tower PCs.” Making room for [...]

Review: HP Compaq Presario CQ61-402SA

The HP Compaq Presario CQ61-402SA is an entry level machine for those after basic performance and portability. Usability is good, however, and while it can’t compete with the Acer Aspire 5732Z-443G32Mn and Samsung R530 on many levels, it is certainly worth a look. The laptop compares closely with the Toshiba Satellite Pro L450-13R in terms of performance. Both laptops feature the same processor, the same amount of memory and the same graphics card and yet this machine performs better across the board. As a result, it is able to run programs faster than the Toshiba and offers more power for [...]

Review: MSI Wind U135

The flood of netbooks appearing on the market is showing no signs of abating and the MSI U135 is one of the latest. It’s a comfortable, attractive machine that features cutting edge technology and good usability, but ultimately brings nothing new to the market. The 10.1-inch screen is bright, making it easy to use in strong light, while the 1024 x 600-pixel resolution is surprisingly crisp, and you’ll have no issues reading or creating word processors. The bezel around the panel is very reflective, however and proves distracting. The black chassis is chic in a rather subtle way [...]

Review: Medion Akoya E1217

While Medion has released previous netbooks to mild acclaim, its latest model brings increased storage and Microsoft’s Windows 7 OS to the table. With so many rivals, however, the Akoya E1217 struggles to stand out. Although other netbooks, such as the Acer Aspire One 532 and Asus Eee PC 1201N, utilise cutting-edge technology, Medion has instead opted for an older Intel Atom processor. While this helps keep costs down, it also delivers lower performance and mobility. While the Acer and Asus provide 344 and 265 minute battery lives, respectively, the Medion only managed 195 minutes. This [...]

Review: HP EliteBook 6930p

HP, the world’s number one laptop manufacturer, makes an enormous range of machines, including what they describe as business-rugged models. The EliteBook 6930p is one such laptop and is designed for use by small, medium and large businesses. The 14.1-inch produces a sharp enough image for reading and editing office documents. Unlike the Hi-Grade’s screen, it doesn’t feature a shiny Super-TFT coating, meaning there are no reflections in bright or rapidly changing light to worry about. HP’s DuraCase technology is in evidence here and the laptop’s chassis is made from [...]
