Reviews: Google Nexus 7 by ASUS

In 2008, when the Eee PC was revolutionizing the computing world and driving every manufacturer to make cheaper and smaller laptops, Sony washed its hands of the whole thing. The “race to the bottom,” the company said, would profoundly impact the industry, killing profit margins and flooding the market with cheap, terrible machines. Sony was wrong, its stance lasting about a year before joining the competition with its own VAIO W. Four years on we’re buying better laptops than ever before and, with the netbook class now more or less dead, that downward competition seems to have [...]

Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus ready for your pre-orders

Having passed the FCC’s critical eye, and hot on the heels of Samsung’s now official love-in with Google, the Korean manufacturer’s pint-sized tablet refresh is now up for pre-ordering. Priced at $399 for the 16GB model (or $499 for 32GB), Amazon remains tight-lipped on release date info, but is more than happy to tell us what we’ll get for that wad of notes. That includes Android Honeycomb 3.2, and a dual-core 1.2GHz processor — a substantial jump up from the single 1GHz processor we had with the original Galaxy Tab. If Samsung can promise a swift Ice Cream Sandwich [...]

Amazon launches Kindle Touch and Touch 3Gstarts at $99

Oddly enough, the Kindle Fire already feels like yesterday’s news. Why? Because Amazon won’t stop launching new products. Jeff Bezos just revealed the Kindle Touch ($99 with ads, $139 without) here in New York City, noting that this guy’s using an IR touch system, similar to the latest Nook and Kobo, and there’s no keyboard (physical, anyway) to speak of. It’s slimmer, smaller and lighter than the existing Kindle, with a muted silver chassis that looks almost nothing like the Kindles of today. The entire user interface has been re-thought out, with “taps” [...]

How to Get More Visitors to Your Website

At this week’s SMX, Rand made a comment about two big brands that ranked at #2 and #3 for their industry’s generic keyword behind an exact match domain. Referring to SERPs Click-Through-Rate data, he suggested that you could calculate how much more traffic the larger brand could receive from the keyword by moving from position 2 to position 1. At the risk of getting a stern talking to, I’m going to have to ask: really? I’m confident that where you see a well-known brand’s site next to an anonymous brand, the recognised name will get a disproportionate number [...]
