Left vs. right hemisphere of the brain: which dominates you?

The human brain is a complex and interconnected system, the largest and the most functionally important part of the central nervous system. Its functions include processing of sensory information coming from the senses, planning, decision making, coordination, motion control, positive and negative emotions, attention and memory. The highest function performed by the brain is thinking. You can easily find out which of the hemispheres of your brain is active at the moment. Look at this picture. If the person in the picture is rotating clockwise, your left hemisphere is more active at the moment [...]

iPhone 5 In Case-Mate images

The iPhone 5 hasn’t been announced yet, but that has not stopped accessory makers from posting upcoming cases for the highly anticipated handset. Case-Mate has published a page on its website with six different case designs for the new iPhone 5, and we’re loving the radical new body shown in the images. We’ve heard tons of speculation that the iPhone 5 will be thinner and lighter than the current model and these cases suggest it will have tapered edges and a slim profile as well. Finally, the images appear to an aluminum back on the fifth-generation iPhone, which also jibes with earlier [...]

Acer Aspire S3

We had some hands-on action with Acer’s new Aspire S3 Series Ultrabook this morning, in a packed and sweaty Berlin hall at IFA 2011. The Taiwanese giant has really impressed us with its great value laptops this year, so we were keen to check out this ultra-slim lapt top, which is just 17mm at itshickest point, and 13mm at its thinnest. This makes it slightly slimmer than the Samsung 9003X, which was already impressively slender. The metal chassis looks reassuringly solid, constructed from a lightweight aluminium/magnesium alloy. We were impressed at just how light the Aspire S3 feels when [...]

Fastest Way to Lose Weight

Are you in a hurry to lose weight and keep it off? Most of us would like to lose weight as fast as possible and then not gain it back. It would be far easier to lose weight permanently if replacement parts weren’t so handy in the refrigerator. ~Hugh Allen Hugh Allen is right. It is so tempting to eat when you know your chocolate cake with strawberry frosting is just inside the refrigerator. It is so tempting to eat when all your good food and good beer is just five steps away from the table. It is so tempting. So, my first advice is this – go shopping and buy fruits and vegetables to [...]

Full-Body Scanners Saving Images

Who saw this coming? Oh, right: most everyone. Gotcha. The Federal Government has admitted to storing those full-body scan images that had privacy advocates so worked up over the past few months. This, despite the fact that it said it wouldn’t store the images. Say one thing, do another. Yay. Even more annoying is the fact that these full-body scanning machines were sold to us as not even being able to store images at all! As if there was no memory for the pictures to go after they had been taken. Clearly we have been misled. The U.S. Marshal Service admitted to storing tens of thousands of [...]
