Reinstall Windows: Introduction
The process of reinstalling Windows on your computer is simpler than you might think.
The very idea can often induce a mild sense of panic, but the benefits of reinstalling Windows far outweigh any perceived risks, particularly as you can eliminate those dangers simply by making sure you back things up as you go.
Reinstalling Windows offers a number of benefits. It can revive a sluggish system by clearing out all the clutter and letting you start from scratch.
You’ll be amazed at how quick your PC suddenly feels, and it’ll be more stable too, with corrupt [...]
BigBoss has released iOS 5 semitethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. According to BigBoss official blog:
“The semi-tethered jailbreak will allow you to reboot your iDevice, but with limited functionality. It is enough that you are no longer stranded, and you can use your phone, text, and many other features. This is just until you get access to Redsn0w again to “just boot tethered”. Once you do that, you’re back to fully functional state.
You can follow the steps below to perform semitethered iOS 5 jailbreak on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch 4G, 3G and iPad 1.

The iPhone Dev Team’s jailbreak tool RedSn0w got a major update with the new version RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 with a lot of new features, which is available for Windows and Mac users for download.
RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 Features
Uses DFU mode to try to automatically determine which device and FW you have
Fetches pieces of public IPSWs from Apple (once). Non-public IPSWs must be provided manually (once). It then caches those pieces for future use.
“Just boot” is a tethered boot. Uses whatever “Preferences” you’ve set for boot logo and kernel boot-args
“Pwned DFU” puts your device in a pwned [...]
The finished version of Windows 8 may not be out until the second half of 2012, but if you’re curious about what’s coming next then there’s no need to wait. Microsoft has released a Windows 8 Developer Preview that’s free for everyone to try.
You may need some courage and Windows experience, though, because this is a very early version: buggy; incomplete; only supports clean installs (that is, it can’t upgrade an existing version of Windows); can’t be removed other than by reformatting; and isn’t supported by Microsoft.
Still, if you’ve a spare [...]
Microsoft has demonstrated the speed of its new Windows 8 operating system with a super-quick boot that loads faster than a PC monitor switches-on.
During the Build unveiling, Windows 8 ecosystem head Michael Angiulo showcased the potential with a high-spec tower PC.
Booting up from scratch, the Windows 8 start screen appeared before the monitor had powered-up.
No more BIOS screens
“It’s almost faster than a monitor can turn on, and sometimes faster than the fan starts,” said Angiulo, seeming a little surprised himself.
“There’s no more BIOS screens flashing. No [...]
Microsoft has revealed that Windows 8 will boot in just 8 short seconds and to prove it, the company has posted a video of the upcoming OS doing just that.
In a lengthy blog post explaining the whys and wherefores of how Microsoft teased the software into an 8 second boot-up, Gabe Aul explains that the new solution is “a fast start-up mode which is a hybrid of traditional cold boot and resuming from hibernate.”
It’s all down to hibernating the kernel session rather than closing it down completely and starting it back up again.
Hibernate that kernel
In addition, the development [...]
The race to get Android working on the now budget-friendly HP TouchPad is on. We’ve already heard rumors of the little green robot coming pre-installed on the ill-fated slate and we’ve seen the first CM7 boot, but no one’s gone all the way quite yet. While progress is slow, a team of dedicated TouchPad hackers, calling itself Team-Touchdroid, is now showing off a dual-boot configuration with Android 2.3.5. As with CM7, the touchscreen still doesn’t work, but the demo video is quite dramatic — that is until the credits stop rolling. If early-stage flip-flopping OSs [...]
We’re getting closer and closer to a stable Android port for the HP TouchPad – a webOS-based tablet which was discontinued less than two weeks ago. A new video has been released today which shows the HP TouchPad booting into CyanogenMod 7 which suggests that development of Android on HP TouchPad is coming along very nicely.
The source of the news is RootzWiki – an Android developer forum – which is now the home for Android-related development for the HP TouchPad: Developer dalingrin from the CyanogenMod Team posted a video of an HP TouchPad booting into the popular CyanogenMod 7 aftermarket [...]
With the recent release of Google’s Chromebooks, you might find yourself asking if you really want to spend your hard-earned cash on one. Don’t worry – we’ll show you how you can test out all aspects of a Chromebook without having to sink any of your cash into the hardware.
The good news is that the Chrome OS project is an open source one, so anyone with an interest and some spare time can go online, grab the source code and compile their own version of the operating system.
The even better news is that someone has already done that for you. A helpful chap called Hexxeh [...]
