Olympus SZ-30MR Shoots 1080p video and 16MP

Olympus just loosed a trio of compact cameras. Let’s start big with the €329 SZ-30MR. According to Olympus, the 30MR packs a backlit CMOS sensor with 24x (25-600mm) optical zoom and Dual Engine TruePic III+ processing. It also lays claim to being the first to simultaneously record 1080p video while shooting 16 megapixel stills — a feature Oly dubs, Multi Recording. Samsung Announced New PL20 and ES80 Pocket Cameras

Brace yourself, Samsung has new point-and-shoots to fill in what little pockets of consumerism weren’t intrigued by any of the company’s five CES shooters… or even the five more announced just weeks later. First up is the PL20 (pictured left). A 14 megapixel CCD sensor, 27mm wide angle lens, 5x zoom, digital image stabilization, 720p 24fps HD video with Smart Filters. Panasonic launches Lumix DMC-FZ40 / FZ45 digital superzoom

Along with the DMC-FZ100, Panasonic has also announced the Lumix DMC-FZ40 superzoom (FZ45 in Europe). Slotting in where the FZ38/35 left off, it features the same 25-600mm equiv. lens as the FZ100, but with a 14.1MP CCD sensor and simpler 230K dot 3.0 inch fixed LCD (as opposed to the FZ100′s CMOS sensor and high-res screen). The FZ40 also offers AVCHD Lite 720p HD video recording, manual shooting modes and ‘Sonic Speed’ auto-focus system that the company says offers the industry’s fastest focus times. Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX5, DSC-TX9 and DSC-T99 digital cameras

Sony has unveiled the Cyber-shot DSC-WX5, DSC-TX9 and DSC-T99 digital compacts. The WX5 and TX9 incorporate the company’s latest 12.2MP, 1/2.3″ Exmor R back illuminated CMOS sensor. Both feature a ‘Superior Auto’ mode that shoots bursts of between 2 and 6 shots then combines them either to reduced noise or boost dynamic range, depending on the scene you’re shooting. 14MP Andriod Cameraphone from Altek leo

We don’t know for sure if the Altek Leo—a smartphone with a 14MP sensor, big honking 3X zoom lenses, and HD video recording—would run on Android or not, but I know that I want it to. The company hasn’t announced what’s the phone’s operating system yet, but the buttons seem to indicate that it will be Google’s phone operating system. In addition to its 14 megapixel CCD sensor with HD video recording, Xenon flash, video LED flash, and 3x optical zoom, the Altek Leo includes Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. Robovie-mR2 mixes Japanese robotics with iPod Touch power

The team at Japan’s ATR Robotics and Communication Laboratories just upped the cool quotient of its series of robots by integrating the iPod Touch. The Robovie-mR2 is the company’s latest humanoid robot and features the Apple iPod Touch in its chest as control and communication interface. While no pricing has been announced, the 30 centimeter-tall robot also features a CCD sensor 3.4 megapixel camera, two microphones and speaker that allows it to communicate verbally. Fujifilm rolls out ultra-zoom HS10 camera

Fujifilm has unveiled its new summer range of cameras, with the HS10 top of quite an impressive crop. The HS10 boasts a 30x optical zoom and a manual zoom mechanism. Victor JVC Japan announces new Everio camcorders

It’s been a long time we heard about JVC updating their Everio brand of camcorders (back in July to be more exact). But the company today announced a total of three new models for the Japanese market. Expect all of these to go on sale outside this country sooner or later. The GZ-MG980 [JP, pictured above] is the most powerful of the three new Everio devices. It features 10.7MP with 1.6″ CCD sensor, produces 720×480 resolution, and comes with an 80GB HDD, an SD/SDHC slot, 39x optical zoom (F1.8〜4.3), a USB port and a 2.7 LCD screen.
