Facebook to buy Instagram for $1 billion
How’s this for some big news on an otherwise slow Monday? Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has let slip that his company plans to buy popular photo-sharing app Instagram (pending all of the standard regulatory approvals, naturally). According to a report from All Things D‘s Kara Swisher, Facebook will pick up the social app, which got its own long-awaited Android version, for a cool $1 billion in cash and shares. Ole Zuck confirmed the news on his personal blog, adding that the deal won’t affect Instagram’s integration with competing social networks:

Facebook to launch something new next week
Facebook is planning an assault on the mobile market next week, with the social network announcing it is about to “launch something awesome”.
Facebook is currently working on a new app optimised for iPad but it is also said to be working on another mobile product which is photo sharing for the iPhone.
All we know about the apparent product launch is that CEO Mark Zuckerberg told journalists that the Seattle office was the place where mobile developments were taking place and that next week’s launch would be “awesome”.

Winklevoss twins file new lawsuit against Facebook
Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, who yesterday settled a long-running court case against Facebook for a not-too-shabby payout of £48 million, have filed a new lawsuit against the social network and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
The new case, filed in Boston, suggests that Facebook and Zuckerberg “intentionally or inadvertently suppressed evidence” in the recently-settled lawsuit.

Mark Zuckerberg Wants to Remove Facebook’s minimum age limit
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants kids younger than 13 years on Facebook. Speaking at NewSchools Summit in the US, Zuckerberg said that younger children should be allowed on the site for education purposes.
According to a news report on Fortune, the Facebook CEO said that in the future, software and technology will enable people to learn a lot from their fellow students.

Facebook has officially announced that it has passed 500 million users milestone all over the globe. Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in his blog post:

As It Celebrates Its Sixth Birthday, Facebook Surges To 400 Million Users
It’s been six years to the day that Facebook launched, and the company’s massive growth is showing no signs of slowing down. Minutes ago, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a note to the site’s blog celebrating the milestone. In it, he says that Facebook will cross the 400 million user mark this week.
