The Consumer Electronics Show, taking place in Las Vegas this week, is supposed to provide a glimpse into technology’s future, but in one sense it also feels like a trip back in time — specifically, to a time before 3G cell networks, and sometimes before cell phones period. FCC chair wants universal broadband, but vague on goals

Julius Genachowski, the Federal Communications Commission chairman appointed by President Barack Obama, talked at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today about the agency’s ambitious national broadband plan. Intel announces AppUp, an app store for netbooks and beyond

It seems like the app store model popularized by Apple’s iPhone is on its way from smartphones to other devices. Today at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, chip-maker Intel announced that a beta test version of the AppUpCenter, its app store for netbooks, is now available. Owners of Windows-based netbooks can now go to the AppUp site and download the store, then install apps like Boxee, for playing web video and music, or Yoono, for managing your social networks and instant messaging services.
