Steampunk VTR controller proves TV is broadcast from a fantasy land

Normally, a VTR controller is a boring box with buttons and knobs on it that broadcasters use to control videotape machines. It’s a professional piece of equipment, something no layman would ever need. So it’s pretty strange to see one gussied up to look like some sort of steampunk cash register. But that’s just what this is. It’s a totally custom VTR controller made by HiTechSys and on display at the NAB Conference, which is a trade show for the broadcast industry. It’s fully functional, with every button performing a real task that broadcasters need. And now, whenever [...]

Steampunk VTR controller

Mike Pusateri sez, “This week is the NAB Conference and I saw this steampunk style VTR controller on the show floor. I thought you might get a kick out of it. It was fully functional and not just a mockup. Each button does a real task that broadcasters need in a VTR controller. The workmanship was excellent. The guys who made it are HiTechSys.”

Sony limits PlayStation Move’s four-player support

PlayStations recently announced Move motion controller may have wowed audiences at this year’s Games Developers’ Conference, but already there seems to be limits to the peripheral. It seems that only two fully fledged Move setups (which is the motion controller and sub-controller) will be able to be connected to the PS3 at any one time. This means that you will be able to have four controllers, without nunchuck, connected which will limit the moves of the controller somewhat. Move any mountain PlayStation Move is Sony’s big move into the family friendly gaming territory of the [...]

PlayStation Move wants you to forget about the Wii

The motion controller formerly known as Sphere is now the PlayStation Move, and Sony has come out swinging (literally) with loads of new information about the device. It still looks like a Wiimote with a little ball on top (and there’s even a nunchuk-style attachment Sony’s calling the “sub controller”), though Sony’s works in tandem with its PlayStation Eye camera — which has been out for a while now. You can buy the controllers individually if you already own an Eye when the devices land this holiday season, or buy a controller, Eye and a motion-controlled [...]

In Pictures: PlayStation Move motion controllers

Ever since Sony unveiled its motion controller at E3, the world has been waiting to see what the final incarnation of the product would be – and the company has finally shown off the product at the Games Developers Conference. Now called the PlayStation Move and complete with a sub-controller (basically a nunchuck), Sony’s motion controller will take on both Nintendo’s well established Wii and the forthcoming Xbox Natal. “The combination of the PS3 system and PlayStation Eye camera detects the precise movement, angle, and absolute position in 3D space of PlayStation Move [...]

PlayStation Move and nunchuk controller revealed

Sony has finally revealed that its new motion controller for PS3 is to be called PlayStation Move, and that it will have an additional nunchuk style add-on, similar to Nintendo’s Wii. Sony’s motion controlled wand-style controller finally got its official name at this week’s GDC conference. PlayStation Move is set to be made available in three different bundles: standalone for those who already have the PS Eye; with the camera and a PS3; or with the camera and a game – which will cost under $100. Lag-free and wireless Latency (or lag) for the Move is nearly non-existent at [...]

Power Gig, a guitar-based game that teaches you to play

We’ve all played Rock Band and Guitar Hero, but how many of us have come away with any further knowledge about the fundamentals of guitar playing? Maybe the interest, sure, but none of the foundation. A new gaming start-up, Seven45 Studios, is looking to change all that with Power Gig: Rise of the Sixstring. As the name implies, you’ll be using a six-string guitar to play songs in the game instead of a controller basically shaped like one. When not plugged into an Xbox 360, the Power Gig controller will actually work with standard guitar amps and strum like you’d expect. Flip [...]

Wii Review

EMOIZ  gives you its unbiased Wii review, its specs and how it measures up against the PS3 and the Xbox 360… Instead of putting together an expensive box with impressive hardware specifications like the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3, Nintendo has set its system apart by offering innovative gameplay experience. Nintendo’s new motion-sensitive controller is trying to take gamers into a more interactive gaming world. Button bashing has been dropped for a more intuitive approach. For example golf games normally require exact button timing or a sweeping motion of the analog sticks, but… …the [...]

Sony delays new motion controller for PS 3 until fall

Sony is eating crow tonight as it announced it has postponed its new Motion Controller from the spring until the fall of 2010. The new controller is a step up from the motion-sensing controller currently selling with the PlayStation 3 game console. This new wand-like device, showcased at the E3 show last June and paraded in front of fans in September, is much more accurate in its detection of body movements. Combined with a PlayStation Eye motion-sensing camera, it can thus be used in shooting, sword fighting, and other fast action games. It was a cool demo, but few at E3 believed that Sony would [...]
