Instagram has been around since 2010, available only to iOS devices. Android users have been waiting patiently, with repeated promises of an Android version arriving soon.
While we knew the Android version of Instagram was coming sooner rather than later, with the release being teased just last month at South by Southwest Interactive, the exact release date wasn’t clear. Well, the day has finally arrived.
With more than 430,000 Android users on the waiting list, Instagram is now available in Google Play. The app carries with it the same features (except tilt-shift/blur) and a similar user [...]
Color us a disappointed shade of blue, but it appears that Samsung and Google have decided not to launch the Galaxy Nexus (or Nexus Prime, or whatever it’s called) and Ice Cream Sandwich at their October 11th Unpacked event. The two companies sent out a joint announcement reading:
Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.
The press event on the 11th was expected to be not only the debut for the successor to the Nexus S, but our first [...]

Okay, so it wasn’t much of a surprise, but Amazon finally has a tablet, and as expected its name picks up where the Kindle left off: Fire. Of course, rumors of an Amazon tablet date back to this time last year (if not before), but it seems that Jeff and co. have wisely chosen to get this thing out on the open market before having yet another wild and wacky holiday quarter. Bloomberg has curiously reported on some of the details before the event itself kicks off, noting that the 7-inch device will run a version of Android while acting much like a “souped-up Kindle.” The real kicker, [...]
The supply chain creating all the little bits for the new iPhone 5 is apparently in full swing, with the device set to ship this month.
That’s according to Digitimes, which reckons that Foxconn, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) behind the production of Apple’s latest phone is now chucking out 150,000 units of the phone per day.
Those behind the creation of the battery, lens, front glass and touch panel are all working at full capacity too, according to the site.
Ramping up
This effort means up to six million devices will ship this month alone, and 22 million around the world [...]
Viewsonic has been at the low-cost Android tablet for some time now, and it showed no signs of letting up on that effort at IFA last week, where it debuted its new ViewPad 7e. If that managed to pique your interest, you’ll be glad to know that the device is now available for pre-order for $199.99 (though there’s still no promised ship date). That will buy you a 7-inch screen, a 1GHz Cortex-A8 processor, Android 2.3 for an OS, 4GB of built-in storage, a microSD card slot for further expansion, and even a mini HDMI port that will let you output full 1080p video.

According to a new report published today, Google will be launching the first Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” powered devices this October, bringing their debut date right alongside the iPhone 5.
Android “Ice Cream Sandwich” was announced officially at Google I/O 2011. Not much is known of the next version of Android, except that it will pack facial recognition, a “stunning” new UI and new APIs in an attempt to reduce the fragmentation problem that faces the Android platform. It will combine Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” and Android 3.0 “Honeycomb” into one OS that will run on [...]
All things digital report says that Apple plans to launch iPhone 5 in the beginning or by the end of October 2011, whereas no hard date of iPhone 5 launch has been revealed yet.
The previous iPhone 5 rumors has indicated that device will be integrated with A5 processor, a Qualcomm dual mode GSM/CDMA baseband, and 8 megapixel rear camera.
