Korea’s finest have been very coy on the dual-core and Honeycomb update to the Galaxy Tab 7, the 7 Plus. We knew that Austria and Indonesia would get it by the end of October but didn’t know when it was likely to land in the States, or how much it would cost when it got here. Fortunately, it has now been spotted at J&R.com, where you will be happy to know that the 16GB version will cost $400, while the 32GB costs a bit more at $500. Now they just need to tell us when the thing will actually arrive.
What’s this? The second coming of the iPhone 4? Sure enough, Tim Cook just pulled the covers off of the hotly-anticipated iPhone 4S here in Cupertino, making 2011 the first year in the company’s current stint in the smartphone business that it chose to launch three new handsets (Verizon’s CDMA iPhone 4 included, of course). On the outside the 4S looks exactly like its predecessor, but on the inside it’s “all new.” Apple has jammed a dual-core A5 CPU inside alongside a new dual-core GPU that supposedly boosts graphics performance by up to 7x. Up front is the [...]
There’s a new Sensation on the block that’ll be making its way to China Mobile, but rather than rehashing more of the same, this release marks the first smartphone to place ST-Ericsson’s NovaThor SoC under the hood. Unlike offerings from Qualcomm, the chip inside the Sensation Z710t offers a dual-core A9 processor along with connectivity to the carrier’s TD-SCDMA infrastructure. Other specs are expected to remain the same, which includes a 4.3-inch qHD display and 8 megapixel camera. Unfortunately, press photos weren’t released, which suggests its design hasn’t [...]
The trickle of Meizu MX news continues: we’re on target for a late September release in China, with a price tag of ¥4,999 ($780 converted) for the 32GB quad-core brute and ¥3,999 ($625) for its less monstrous dual-core 16GB sibling. Both phones are powered by A9 processors, although it’s not yet clear if the quad-core chip is same as the Samsung engine in the PlayStation Vita. The 4.3-inch screen will be qHD and overall thickness will stay within the 10mm (0.4-inch) threshold. No doubt we’ll have the full low-down soon as it launches.
A white Samsung Galaxy S2 handset will be made available from today in the UK.
For those people who don’t like Apple but love white phones, the landmark day has finally arrived and you can now get your mitts on a white Samsung Galaxy S2.
Aside from its pale hue, you will also be getting one of the finest smartphones around according to TechRadar’s Samsung Galaxy S 2 review, running Android 2.3 and sporting a dual-core 1.2GHz processor.
Huge hit
Simon Stanford, Managing Director, Mobile, Samsung UK and Ireland said: “Since its launch in May the Galaxy S2 has been a huge hit with [...]
We’re getting tired of all this teasing without any payoff, but when it comes Motorola’s forthcoming dual-core Droid, we can’t help ourselves. Just days ago we saw the Bionic’s guts when it passed through the FCC, and now we’ve got fresh pics of the phone in the wild. This most recent sneak peek comes courtesy of Howard Forums user ceb unit, who posted a couple photos of the device after a Moto rep let a friend get handsy with the newest Droid. It’s good to see civilians get their paws on one, but enough already, we want shots of this thing in the hands of some [...]
We’ve managed to nab some time with a weird new phone: the Samsung Galaxy S Plus.
We’re not sure that we can even call it a new phone, as it’s essentially the Samsung Galaxy S with a slight tweak under the hood.
The phone itself bears a striking resemblance to the original Galaxy S – it’s the same chassis if we’re honest, apart from the fact the rim around the edge is now a glossy chrome rather than the darker silver offering we were treated to before.
The rest of the phone is almost identical, with the weight ever so slightly lower than its predecessor, which [...]
Rumours of delays have dogged the upcoming iPhone 5 for months now, but the latest chatter from those apparently in the know suggests that the new iPhone may be held back until early 2012.
The reason behind the hold-up, sources say, is that the dual-core A5 processor that Apple is intending to use has been overheating.
Many have speculated that this will see Apple waiting until the A6 chip is available, which won’t be until the beginning of next year.
Note the ‘if’
If true, this could mean we will see a slightly updated iPhone 4S launch in autumn (another recurring rumour), with [...]
One Galaxy S II review not enough for you? Hey, we understand, a dual-core phone deserves at least two goes through the Engadget test chambers. Today marks the publication of our Engadget Spanish analysis, which, among other things, compares the GSII against its forebear, the Galaxy S, at the subpixel level. Yes, we’ve got video capturing the improvement Samsung has made in its new Real-Stripe (RGB) pixel arrangement on the Galaxy S II’s Super AMOLED Plus display over the older, less awesome PenTile RGBG layout of the Plus-deprived Super AMOLED panel. You can see it after the break [...]
What do you do after you’ve bought the most powerful smartphone to yet grace the Android universe? Some timid folks would urge you to just enjoy it, but if you’re like us, you’ll probably want to know just how high that dual-core Exynos 4210 birdie could fly. The processor inside the Galaxy S II started off life at 1GHz, then got sped up by Samsung to 1.2GHz just before release, and has now been taken all the way to 1.5GHz thanks to coolbho3000 over on the xda-developers forum. He’s been nice enough to provide the source code and instructions necessary to reproduce [...]
