Review: LG Prada 3.0

The new LG Prada 3.0 (or PRADA phone by LG 3.0, if the fashion house has anything to do with it) is a ‘fashion phone’ that actually ticks more than a few tech boxes as well. When most people hear about designer tie-ins with technology, they think of lame devices with a logo smeared all over it – but in this case, it’s actually a decent phone in its own right. The Prada 3 has a large amount of synergy with the LG Optimus 3D, bringing the same OMAP 1GHz dual-core, dual-channel processor but ramping it up with 1GB of RAM, rather than the measly 512MB on offer previously. We’re [...]

Inside Style – Coffee Colours

Inside Style – by Annmarie O’Connor – featured in The Dubliner – Feb 3  Cream is the new camel. This is the mind-blowing fashion edict which has trickled down from the international catwalks. The Pantone Colour Report also touts tobacco, rust, beeswax and honeysuckle as hot hues. Mix them all together and you’ve got yourself a caramel macchiato (without the calories). Although I can appreciate such poetic nuances (I’m a closet Keats fan); my inner New Yorker yearns for some straight-talking. The moveable feast of fashion can be challenging enough without adding [...]

Inside Style – The Seventies

As featured in The Dubliner magazine – January 27th After a season of snow, the sniffles and incessant talk about national solvency, the spring / summer collections are bid to return! Yes, I knew you’d be excited; even if there’s no chance of wearing anything that isn’t thermal/waterproof/doesn’t convert into a tent for at least another three months. That being said, if and when, the sun decides to grant us with its presence, there’s a big chance we’ll all be stepping back in time. It appears the seventies are making a comeback and with it the promise of high-waisted bell bottom [...]

Inside Style – Age Limits

Inside Style by Annmarie O’Connor – as featured in The Dubliner magazine – January 13th Age – I never quite act mine. At four years old, I advised my mother to cancel my imminent birthday party as I would not be turning five. This refusal to engage with the process of growing up has stood me in good fashion stead. In an industry where airbrushing and Photoshop blast away the sands of time, my Peter Pan-like proclivities fit in quite nicely. Well, that’s what I thought. A recent visit to a city centre clothing store taught me I appear more hip replacement than hipster.  [...]

Ireland’s Most Influential in Fashion 2010

I just received an email from Irish model Faye Dinsmore whose blog Faye is running Ireland’s Most Influential in Fashion 2010 awards. “You’re on the shortlist,” informed the e-missive of my nomination for Ireland’s Top Fashion Blogger. “How sweet!” I thought. I’ve since taken a look at the rather stellar award categories which boast all sorts of categories from Top Editor to Photographer and Magazine. It’s a really positive idea given the ‘Ho-hum. Life sucks. We have no money,’ climate at the moment. Log onto her site Faye and vote [...]

Inside Style – Christmas Jumpers

Inside Style by Annmarie O’Connor – as featured in The Dubliner – December 9th Christmas jumpers.  Apparently they’re all the rage.  As disturbing as this may be, there’s a theory for the trend’s increasing popularity. It’s thought that in times of economic downturn, people take solace in laughter and nostalgia. This could also mean that Ryan Tubridy is either an early fashion adapter or had an inkling about the IMF bail-outs for about two years. Either way, he should be approached with caution. Don’t get me wrong. I’m all for irony and rather delight in [...]

The Silent Gallery

Shh!! Don’t tell anyone but Irish designer Eilis Boyle has created an online pop-up shop in time for the Christmas shopping season. The Silent Gallery has ironically become the worst kept secret in fashion; in part due to my own loquacious nature. Anything this good can’t be kept shtum. And by good I mean superlative cashmere scarves, bow clad arm warmers and shrugs that feel like a big cuddle on a Monday. Be sure to log on now and check out Eilis’ virtual cabinet of curiosities. It’s only open until December 10th so don’t miss out. The Silent Gallery @ www.thesilentgallery.com [...]

Helen Steele

I had the pleasure of working on a recent shoot with artist/stylist/designer Helen Steele who kindly gifted me with this amazing cuff. I first became aquainted with her work at a Harvey Nichols fashion show which she produced based on a six day play of Austrian artist Herman Nitch. The chainsaw-wielding clowns and paint-strewn catwalk had me hooked. If you’ve got an eye for art, log on to her website for a peek at her Donnie Darko-inspired acrylic on perspex offerings. Accessory hawks be sure to pop in to Harvey Nichols from December 1st where Helen’s cuffs will be selling for €150 [...]
