Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch ever, according to Activision, with the the games company managing to shift 6.5 million copies of the first person shooter and make $400 million in the first 24 hours of release – and that’s just in the UK and US.
The launch has smashed through a record that was previously held by Call of Duty: Black Ops and before this, you’ve guessed it, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Other records broken include the number of people on Xbox Live at any one time, which happened because everyone was playing Modern Warfare 3.

I have seen a lot of gamers who feel that there aren’t good games to play on Linux. It might be that they love to play those pirated games, don’t know why, when there are bounteous open source games available for free. The Linux games are hugely popular and that’s not just because they are free, its also because a developer can take a great game and make it even better. There’s an array of free open source games waiting to run on the Linux platform. So I got the top linux games in 2009. And here I come.

I didn’t think I was one to get motion sick, but this projector strapped to a Wii-gun is making me think otherwise. Gamer Nirav Patel decided to take first-person shooting to the next level by combining a Wiimote Zapper, a handheld ShowWX laser projector and a gyrometer to display a screen wherever his Zapper is pointing.
Patel calls it a “glasses-free virtual reality first-person shooter,” and it allows him to look around and navigate the game-world just by angling the Zapper and using its joystick. Right now, it’s all a little unwieldy as the game (an open-source FPS [...]
Seeing as we recently told you about the stunningly-goofy HaptiHug, which allows you to receive the physical sensation of a hug via your computer, here’s a similar but much more macho product – the 3rd Space FPS Gaming Vest. With its game-activated internal pneumatic pockets, the FPS has no interest in hugging you, but it will gladly simulate a gunshot to your torso.
A surgeon, who was trying to develop a system for remotely diagnosing prisoners, designed the FPS Vest. It has four pockets in the front, four in the back, and connects to a small USB-powered air compressor. Different pockets [...]
From the arcade heyday of titles such as Atari’s Pole Position and Yu Suzuki’s sublime OutRun for Sega back in the 1980s, driving games have always been a mainstay genre in the videogame business.
2010 is certainly set to be a golden year for petrolhead gamers and fans of virtual racing, with Polyphony Digital’s epic PS3 title Gran Turismo 5 finally moving into view later this year. Bizarre Creations (of Project Gotham Racing fame) is currently putting the final touches to its intriguing arcade battle driving game Blur (due later this summer) and superbike fans are being treated [...]

Nvidia chief executive Jen-Hsun Huang declared that 2010 will be the year of the tablet computer.
Of course, that has a lot to do with the fact that the graphics chip maker has a new chip for use in tablet computers, the just announced Tegra 2. Huang spoke at the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip maker’s press conference at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas today. About 50 new Tegra-based tablets are in the works, including one that Huang held up.
“This year is going to be absolutely wild,” Huang said.
Apple has a rumored tablet product coming on Jan. 27, of course. Nvidia [...]
