HTC has launched some of the most successful Android devices in the market and since every other company seems to be creating an iPad rival these days, one would expect HTC to do same. However, a recent announcement from the company brings an uninvited surprise for all of us.
It was confirmed by HTC recently that it has no plans to produce an Android based slate device in the near future or any tablet device at all for that matter. Here is a word from Eric Lin, the Global PR and online community manager for HTC.
We are always looking at it, but, right now, the whole idea is that in order [...]
Flying cars are always perpetually a few years away in the future. But the thing is, we have the technology to make them now. They’re just insanely impractical. I mean, think about it: how many car accidents happen every day? What would adding another axis for people to worry about do to those safety numbers?
But despite that, people still keep designing these things as if they’re ever going to exist in our lifetimes. The latest is the YEE, a car that can transform into a plane at the touch of a button. I’ll give it to them: it’s cool looking. But really, guys, it’s [...]
Samsung just started showing off a 19-inch AMOLED screen that’s 30% transparent, allowing you to see right through it. It’s super thin and looks straight out of the future.
Of course, no one would actually want a TV that was transparent like this. It certainly doesn’t do the picture quality any favors. But for a neat trick that shows off all the stuff their researchers are working on, it sure is impressive. And really, I can imagine this sort of thing being used in public places for advertising and that sort of thing in the not-too-distant future. But unless there’s a way [...]
You might think this is some kind of solar array, but high-end designer Philippe Starck tells us this is the lamp of the future. He’s named it Light Photon, and this limited-run lighting fixture is made of high-grade stainless steel with strips of OLEDs positioned on its panel.
The only difference between this lamp and the one the rest of us will be using, say, five years from now is its price: $5,900. On some future date, remember when you first saw this precious design as you tote that $10 lamp home from Wal-Mart that looks just like this.
Let’s jump 40 years into the future with designer Victor Uribe, and look at that, it’s just about time for his Airbus A350H airliner to lift off from the center of Frankfurt. In the crowded world of 2050, Uribe says there won’t be room for conventional airports any more, so that’s why he’s designed his hydrogen-powered aircraft to take off vertically.
In this design concept, the aircraft’s hydrogen fuel is synthesized from water drawn from a nearby river. That fuel is pumped to the awaiting jets, refueling as they perch high atop their mid-21st-century runways, [...]
To hell with 3D television — I’d rather have higher resolution. If the rest of the TV-buying public agrees with me, then you’re looking at the super display of the future. This TVLogic LUM-560W rocks the rez known as Quad HD, showing 3,845 x 2,160 pixels of ultra-high-def, far beyond the paltry 1920 x 1080 of today’s HDTVs.
This is one of a few superscreens peeking out from the future, showing off what might be commonplace a decade from now. Meanwhile, filmmakers with their high-resolution digital cinema files will love editing their flicks natively on this gorgeous display, [...]
The Gadget Show Magazine will hit the newsstands on Thurdsday, with the one-off collector’s special bringing all the coolness of Five’s popular technology show to print.
Featuring content from presenters Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry, Jon Bentley and Ortis Deley, the magazine is being published by Future – the publishers behind TechRadar.
The mag will cost £5 and includes a run-down of The Gadget Show team’s 50 Greatest Gadgets Ever (we’re hoping that the wheel makes an entry) and ten cutting-edge pieces of tech to watch out for in 2010.

Showing us that the future of robot design in Japan may draw inspiration from 50s era American sci-fi, designer Noboru Tsubaki recently showed off his 43-foot tall “Mother Night” balloon sculpture in Tokyo.
Tsubaki, a professor in the space design department of Kyoto University of Art and Design, outfitted the sculpture with screens that change in reaction to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by visitors. The work was on display during this week’s Roppongi Art Night in Tokyo, a festival showing off the works of various artists dedicated to design innovation.

T3 has published its list of the most sought-after gadgets of the year in 2010′s Hot 100.
The list tellingly includes a larger number of e-readers than ever before, and HTC’s new phones, the Desire and Legend are prominent in the top 20.
But the top spot has been obviously nabbed by the Apple iPad, which has sparked frenzied debate over the past year.
Tablet frenzy
Its launch is imminent in both the UK and the US, and its presence has already sparked the nascent tablet computer market into life, with additions from the likes of HP and Notion Ink in the Hot 100 too.
“Ultimately, [...]
You’re looking at the future of graphics cards, NVIDIA’s GTX 480 and GTX 470, touted as the world’s fastest. This is the next generation, the first cards with superfast tech NVIDIA calls Fermi — that means faster frame rates at higher resolutions, a guaranteed lure for serious PC gamers.
These two ultra-fast cards, with their red-hot graphics processing units (GPUs), are especially well suited for the latest trend in computing: getting the GPU itself to do much of the heavy lifting, leaving the CPU to work on other data at the same time. These two hotshots are NVIDIA’s [...]
