Google has launch a new website for Google Earth, featuring showcases and tutorials for the more advanced features the exploration software. It looks like Google is trying to push Earth as an advanced tool, rather than the cool plaything it has been for much of its life. Google has just updated the Andoird app of its world geographic software, Google Earth to version 1.1 and this new version brings support for the oceans of the world. Users can now take an in depth look of how the surface beneath the vast oceans looks like and zoom in and out for their viewing pleasure. Google Earth 1.1 also has Flash supports, so not only pictures of the aquatic regions of Earth can be viewed, but videos related to it can also be seen via the incorporated Flash player. The Google Earth for Android 1.1 app is available for Android version 2.1 or higher.

Apple’s gone out an bought itself another mapping company. This time it’s Canadian firm Poly9, which makes interactive 3D software designed for use in a browser. It could be an important step towards Apple making their very own Google Earth. The acquisition was made “recently,” though it’s not clear exactly when.
