Samsung Galaxy Note 2

When Samsung decided that it was going to release the fabled Samsung Galaxy S3, we saw Apple levels of hype around the unreleased device. The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 followed sharply in its footsteps, with a whole raft of rumours. We’ve now seen some of these rumours come to fruition, and some disappear by the side of the road. Here we are though, Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in hand, so what does it have to offer? A bigger, better screen After the launch of the original Samsung Galaxy Note just over a year ago, we wouldn’t have thought that Samsung would ever create a phone with [...]

Review: Toshiba 32DB833

The Toshiba 32DB833 is a 32-inch full HD TV with a built-in Blu-ray player. This solves the perennial combi problem of (mis)matching hi-def screens with standard-definition DVD drives and enables both components to perform to their full potential. The 32DB833 isn’t the first TV to carry an integrated Blu-ray player, of course; Sony’s EX43B models were the first, and the 32-inch version was still available at the time of writing. The Toshiba 32DB833 has a massive price advantage over its Sony rivals, though, coming in at around £250 cheaper than the equivalent (same size) model. This [...]

Top 10 Best 32-inch LCD TV in 2011

Which is the best 32-inch TV? Most living rooms can’t physically take a TV much bigger than 32-inch, making this size by far the best for a lot of people in the UK. But within this size division, there’s plenty of choice. A basic HD-ready set can be found for less than £300 is you search hard, though it’s just as easy to spend over £2k. There’s only one certainty at this size – your new TV will be a LCD TV. If you’re lucky it could have LED backlighting, but it won’t be a plasma; LG used to make plasmas at this size, but there’s not one on sale [...]

Top 5 Best Gaming Laptops

MSI GX740 – £999 We’re big fans of the MSI GX740. By making sensible and realistic cuts – think Core i5 instead of i7 processor, no Blu-ray drive, lack of full HD screen – MSI has managed to deliver a laptop that boasts serious graphical prowess at a very competitive price. The GX740 also looks great, and we’re told by MSI this is the last model to feature the famous style, with the inbound GT660 demonstrating the way of things to come, so if you like the design we’d suggest you get stuck in before it’s too late. The graphical power here is formidable, [...]

Review: Sharp 40LE700E LCD TV

As a 40-inch LCD TV with LED backlighting, the first thing we need to do in this review is nail what bit of the LED world it belongs to. And rather surprisingly, it turns out that it’s a direct LED model – as in, one where the LED lights are positioned directly behind the screen, rather than being positioned around the screen’s frame as happens with edge-lit LED LCD TVs such as Samsung’s B7000 and B8000 ranges. The reason this is surprising is that direct LED lighting is still generally considered to be the ‘premium’ LED approach in quality terms, and so not [...]
