New Intel Ultrabook to take on Apple MacBook Air
Intel is aiming to take on the MacBook Air in the superthin laptop category, with a new, surprisingly affordable range of Ultrabooks.
Intel claimed at Computex back in May that it thinks Ultrabooks “will make up 40 per cent of the market by the end of 2012.”
Sub-$1000 sweet spot
And that’s no idle boast, if the latest news on the pricing plans for Ultrabooks are anything to go by, with strong suggestions that Intel is set to hit that all-important sub-$1,000 sweet spot price point.

Review: Apple iMac 27-inch 2011
Although the form factor is unchanged, the 2011 Apple iMac refresh represents a significant step forwards for the popular all-in-one computer. Again consisting of two 21.5-inch models and two with 27-inch screens, the entire lineup has switched to Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, the second generation of the respected Core-i CPU series.
Quad core Intel Corei5s are used throughout, whereas the 2010 iMacs they replace used dual core Intel Core i3s in all but the most expensive model.

Acer uncovers new Timeline X thin and lights
Acer has announced the latest in its Timeline series of thin, light and power-frugal laptops with a UK release date of May.
The Timeline X (meaning ‘excellent’) promises up to 12 hours of battery life. We will need to get our hands on the laptop to be sure of that claim, but the machines do boast various power saving options including Acer’s own PowerSmart and backlit LED panels boosted by Intel Display Power Savings (iDPS) guaranteeing the same image quality but using 30 per cent less power.
Prices start at £599 and there will be up to nine variants.
