Review: Apple iPhone 4S

It may not sport a bigger screen or a different design, but the iPhone 4S is certainly a step on from its predecessor, although much of the attention will be focused on just how big that step is. Sporting the already-lauded A5 processor, improved aerial signal and a better camera, the hardware changes to the iPhone 4S from the iPhone 4 are by no means striking. It’s difficult not to feel a little underwhelmed that an incremental increase has been 16 months coming. You can check out our iPhone 4S video preview, complete with a look at the new voice controlled Siri software: However, the Siri [...]

Will the iPhone 4S camera kill off compacts?

As the world went into frenzy last night over the newly launched iPhone, which rather disappointingly turned out to be the iPhone 4S and not the much longed for iPhone 5. However, there was one improvement that caught our attention. The improved onboard camera now boasts an 8 megapixel sensor, up from the 5 megapixels on the 4 along with an f/2.4 aperture lens for improved low light shooting. An advanced hybrid infrared filter has also been included, promising to boast more accurate and uniform colours. The new iPhone 4s is powered by the new A5 chip and iOS 5. Apple claims that the image signal [...]

Apple iPhone 4S vs. Sasmung Galaxy S II vs. Motorola Bionic vs. HTC Titan

Now that we know how the iPhone 4S stack up against the iPhone 4, let’s take a look at how Apple’s latest smartphone compares to its mightiest competitors on the other major platforms — Android and Windows Phone. In Google’s camp we chose the superlative Samsung Galaxy S II models (focusing on the announced US variants) along with the Motorola Droid Bionic for its qHD and LTE chops. We then picked the upcoming HTC Titan to bat for Microsoft’s team. RIM’s not included here since it’s still stuck in the junior leagues. We left out the intriguing Nokia N9 [...]

Apple iPhone 4S Specifications, Price and Availability

What’s this? The second coming of the iPhone 4? Sure enough, Tim Cook just pulled the covers off of the hotly-anticipated iPhone 4S here in Cupertino, making 2011 the first year in the company’s current stint in the smartphone business that it chose to launch three new handsets (Verizon’s CDMA iPhone 4 included, of course). On the outside the 4S looks exactly like its predecessor, but on the inside it’s “all new.” Apple has jammed a dual-core A5 CPU inside alongside a new dual-core GPU that supposedly boosts graphics performance by up to 7x. Up front [...]

iPhone 5 cases and realistic unibody dummy show off incredible slimness

While we’re only five days away from finding out the true appearance of the next-generation iPhone, our good friends over at BENM.AT went ahead and crafted their very own unibody dummy using CAD drawings, CNC tools and a block of aluminum — seriously, that’s how they roll! Granted, this work’s only based on various data and rumor gathered across the web, but it’s still a pretty convincing presentation — the ultra slim teardrop design and elongated home button from previous reports are taken into account, and the mute switch has been relocated from the top left [...]

Motorola Xoom 2 tablets Pictures leaked both around 9mm thick

There’s nothing like a family portrait, and the Xoom 2 brothers have paired up for this year’s Christmas card shot — or at least for an anonymous tipster’s latest leak. These pictured tablets give us a better look at the rear-facing buttons we heard about last week, which appear to be a power button and a volume rocker. The smaller sibling sports the same “Fleming” moniker we saw in yesterday’s images, the same 8.2-inch screen size as previously reported, and appears to be about as thick as a 9.3mm iPhone 4. Combining with This is My Next’s intel, [...]

Samsung Galaxy S2 dominates most desired current phone poll

The Samsung Galaxy S2 appears to have overtaken the iPhone 4 as the most desirable phone on the market, with readers voting overwhelmingly for the Android handset. Responding to a question about what phone readers would replace their current mobile with, the S2 and iPhone 4 were clear leaders – picking up 70 per cent of 5,391 votes between them. But it was the Galaxy S2 that topped the poll with a massive 47 per cent of the vote, miles ahead of Apple’s handset on 23 per cent. iPhone 5 Of course, when the iPhone 5 is formally unveiled in the next couple of weeks, we’d expect [...]

Review: Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray

Overview, design and feel It’s been a busy old year for Sony Ericsson. As it struggles to regain a foothold in the market it was once sucha major player in, it’s been firing out more Android-based Xperia smartphones than long-lost relatives on an episode of Jeremy Kyle. And they’re not half bad either. The Xperia Arc has been the flagship of 2011′s bunch. Arriving in the spring, it became the skinny poster girl for the Swedish-Japanese hybrid, showing off its amazing screen presence with the help of the Sony Reality Display (the bit that reproduces colour on the screen [...]

Apple has launched a lawsuit against Samsung in the UK

Apple has launched a lawsuit against Samsung in the UK, which marks the latest in a long line of court cases between the two electrical giants. Apple filed the court order this week, according to ZDNet, which brings the total number of patent suits the companies have between them to 20. While this latest court shenanigan is about potential patent infringement, so far the exact patents it refers to are unknown. Samsung said that the lawsuit was a countersuit filed against them for its original lawsuit it took out against Apple in June of this year. Samsung V Apple: take 20 The situation between [...]
