As you can tell from the picture, these speakers are dead skinny. 0.9mm thick, to be exact, making them perfectly-sized for cellphones, cameras and other portable gadgets which may require all the parts to be waterproofed.
Murata, based in Kyoto, Japan, created what they’re calling the world’s first “ultra-thin waterproof piezoelectric speaker,” which is said to be cheaper than the usual waterproof speakers found in Japan, thanks to the way the output holes have been waterproofed. Normally speakers are covered with waterproof “sheets,” which cover the [...]

Putting some LEDs on bikes is nothing new, but Japan’s Suns & Moon Laboratory is taking the idea a step further with its Anipov LED system. With the wheel spinning, the setup will be able to display damn near any image you want, and it’s easier than you might think.
So easy, in fact, that the system accepts bitmap files and other digital image formats, and then the Anipov software figures out how to translate the corresponding colors to the spoke-mounted LEDs and, in turn, make your bike look crazy. The one big downside is that the whole thing relies on batteries, so it’s [...]
The latest proof that Twitter is succeeding in Japan where other Internet brands like Google and Facebook have failed is the creation of IS Parade, an amazingly entertaining, and creepily cute Twitter visualization application.

With cleverly animated bodies (including people “and” animals) and heads represented [...]

A new office building in Osaka, Japan features two dozen of the biggest elevators around, each one capable of carrying a whopping 80 people at a time. With windows overlooking the city, the 12-foot-wide, 9-foot-long and 8.5-foot-high boxes will be downright spacious when carrying just a handful of passengers.
The building in question features a huge Hankyu department store on the bottom and several floors of offices above, all sitting on top of one of Japan’s largest train terminals. That all adds up to a whole lot of people coming and going every day, so they probably won’t look as [...]
