Asif gets his life partner

LAHORE: Mohammad Asif’s life has returned to normalcy after he rejoined the national cricket team and now he has got his life partner. His wedding ceremony took place here at a wedding hall near the Allama Iqbal Airport in which close relatives of Asif and his bride Sana Hilal participated. Fellow cricketers of Mohammad Asif could not attend his wedding ceremony as they were busy in playing T20 Cup in Karachi while former cricketers were not invited. Waqar made head coach, Ijaz to assist him

LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt has said here on Tuesday that the appointment of Waqar Younis as head coach and Ijaz Ahmed as coach has been decided. The chairman PCB told that former fast bowler Waqar Younis would be head coach of the national cricket team while Ijaz Ahmed would be assistant coach. He said that a foreign consultant may also be appointed for the Pakistan team’s tour of England. Waqar Younis is presently in Australia and according to reports, he will join the team after returning home in a week.

Tour de Pakistan begins from Peshawar

PESHAWAR: Fifteenth Tour de Pakistan cycle race Monday kicked off from Peshawar to reach Quaid’s mausoleum in 13 days, Geo News reported Monday. A five-member team of Afghanistan is also partaking the race organized by Pakistan Cycling Federation. Sui Southern’s Nematullah is defending his title in a race being vied by 65 cyclists racing 1605 kilometers to finish-line in Karachi. The first phase will end in Lahore and second in Rahim Yar Khan where the cyclists will rest. At present, the Tour de Pakistan participants are racing to Rawalpindi.

Worsening Gas and Electricity Crises in Pakistan

Hagler Bailly, a global management consulting firm with an office in Islamabad, warned in a 2006 study that Pakistan is going to witness gas shortage starting in 2007, and the imbalance will grow every year to cripple the economy by 2025, when shortage will be 11,092 MMCFD (Million standard cubic feet per day) against total 13,259 MMCFD production. The Hagler Bailly report added that Pakistan’s gas shortage would get much worse in the next two decades if it did not manage any alternative sources. Pakistan-China in $1.4 billion fighter jet deal

Daily Times Monitor LAHORE: China has agreed to sell Pakistan at least 36 advanced fighter jets in a landmark deal worth as much as $1.4bn, Pakistani and western officials said on Tuesday. China will supply two squadrons of J-10 fighter planes in a preliminary agreement, which could lead to further sales in future, a Pakistani official said.
