Review: Samsung Galaxy S4

The Samsung Galaxy S4 brings a huge Full HD screen, an improved camera and faster innards, and fits it all in a chassis the same size as the Galaxy S3. However, many will struggle to tell the difference between the S4 and its predecessor, as the polycarbonate chassis is still in use; although the metallic banding around the side, while still plastic, is much sturdier and feels more premium. We’ve already seen a lot of the Samsung Galaxy S4 features, as it’s been snapped multiple times in leaks – some more accurate than others, it has to be said – and the specs mooted have turned [...]

HTC One X got rooted before retail debut

You didn’t think the modders that form the very underpinnings of Android’s base would let a little unicorn like the One X slide by unscathed, did ya? That polycarbonate überphone hasn’t even made it out of the official launch gate and yet, thanks to MoDaCo, it’s already been rooted. Sidestepping the usual dense how-to’s typically associated with achieving root on non-Nexus devices, our eager beaver hacker’s compiled Superboot: a one-step, no fuss boot image that automates the process for you sans the need for adb commands. The hack is said to work with retail [...]

Review: Sony PS Vita

Overview Sony’s latest attempt to lift a slice of the handheld pie so ably scoffed by Nintendo is the PS Vita: a chunky black slab of portable PlayStation. It’s a substantial revamp of the company’s handheld legacy that started with the PSP and has evolved, until now, through five largely identical models since its 2004 debut. Each step saw minor revisions – three of which, the PSP-1000, 2000 and 3000, were basically size revising updates – and attempts to chase a rapidly changing market. The PSP Go added a sliding-case design further shrinking the device, and ditched [...]

However, in an official statement received by Techradar, the manufacturer revealed that the phone will be treated to its very own launch — something it’s also plotting for its new Google TV sets. In its own words: “Samsung is looking [...]
