This is the Muon by designer Taeho Yoon. Like pretty much every other concept car, it promises to do something crazy — namely, sense how you’re feeling. While the concept is far-fetched, it still makes you wonder: could a car help our moods?
You probably play music you like or listen to the radio while driving. Maybe you even have a station that tends to calm you. (Heavy metal always did it for me when I was younger. Go figure.) Yoon wants to take that idea a hundred steps further, with the Muon personalizing almost every aspect of your driving experience to keep you happy and calm.
The U.S. government is considering the sale of Plum Island, famous as a site for biological weapons testing and all manner of disease study. It’s home to a defunct government lab, a light house and a beach, but you could easily picture zombies and super soldiers strolling the grounds.
The sale of Plum Island, located near Long Island, New York, is being spurred by the government deciding to move its operation to Kansas. The new lab will cost something to the tune of 650 million. The old one? Why, Plum Island could sell for as little as $50 to $80 million, U.S. Rep. Timothy Bishop told the [...]
Next time you go to an airport, there could be a new security measure waiting for you: an X-ray, full-body scanner. 52 of the scanners developed by a company called Rapiscan have been placed in 23 airports across the country, with plans for 1,000 of the machines to be in use by the end of 2011. While the six-second sweep of the Rapiscan technology offers more security as the system sees underneath the skin, the X-rays that make it all possible could be putting air travelers at risk.

If you want the fastest average broadband speed in the world, don’t move to Japan. Instead, buckle up your Birkenstocks and pile into the VW Bus, because it’s time for a road trip to Berkeley, California, home of the fastest average Internet speeds on earth.
This nugget of data comes courtesy of the most recent State of the Internet report from Akamai Technologies, which collects and analyzes a unique data set of worldwide speeds and IP address usage. When all of the company’s speed data was sorted by city, three US locations top the list before South Korea and Japan begin [...]
Reviews from the folks who Apple sent an iPad to early are starting to come out. What did they think?
Boing Boing’s Xeni Jardin called the device a “a touch of genius,” and added:
Flick the switch and the novelty hits… The display is large enough to make the experience of apps and games on smaller screens stale. Typography is crisp, images gem-like, and the speed brisk thanks to Apple’s A4 chip and solid state storage. As I browse early release iPad apps, web pages, and flip through the iBook store and books, the thought hits that this is a greater leap into a new [...]
Stark Industries just unveiled its website for Stark Expo 2010, coming to Queens, New York, May 7. Between the gargantuan pavilions, sleek monorail and an array of huge, skyward-pointing spotlights, this thing’s going to put the Beijing Olympics to shame. Even better, there’s a good chance you’ll see Iron Man there!
Or actually, it’s the opposite: There’s a good chance you’ll see the Stark Expo when you go see Iron Man 2. Too bad it’s fictional — this promo site for the movie makes the Expo look like the best thing to happen to Flushing Meadows in [...]
