Facebook adds new Smart Friends List feature

Facebook has announced a host of improvements to the way your friends are grouped on the site. The new Smart Lists feature automatically pulls together your work friends, old school pals and those in the same locale, based in the information you include in your profile. The Smart Lists are automatically collated by Facebook, but you’ll also have the opportunity to edit as you see fit. There’s also opportunity to blot out those annoying acquaintances by only viewing updates from your close friends list, meaning you see less of the stragglers. BFFs get their own feed The Close Friends [...]

Review: LG 42LV450U

The LG 42LV450U is a classy-looking, slender set that is equipped with edge LED lighting. It’s nice to find, too, that there’s a USB port available for playing back photo, music and video (including DivX HD) files from USB storage devices. But this is basically where the interesting specs end. There’s no Freeview HD tuner, something LG has always been quick to introduce further down its TV range. There’s no sign of any of LG’s Smart TV online services, either. Indeed, there isn’t even a LAN port to access the internet or files stored on DLNA PCs. Unfortunately [...]

SmartKeyboard: A Physical Keyboard For iPhone Inspired By The iPad 2′s Smart Cover

At the very basic level, there are two types of keyboards in use on smartphones today: physical and virtual. Virtual keyboards, like that on the iPhone and popular Android devices, are generally more widespread while physical keyboards are more popular with people who prefer tactile feedback which is, of course, missing on virtual keyboards. We personally are big fans of the iPhone’s multi-touch virtual keyboard, but I know there are plenty of people who would jump to the opportunity to use a physical keyboard on their iPhone. A new project announced today caters to that very crowd. Designed [...]

Samsung 60D8000 LED Smart TV

As we said when we first saw the Samsung D8000 Series Smart TV at CES back in January, Samsung’s new flagship TV line is nothing short of stunning. And now at IFA 2011 the Korean manufacturer has produced a huge 60-inch version- the 60D8000 LED Smart TV complete with an ultra-thin 1.5cm bezel. It’s a truly impressive sight, so we thought we’d snap a bunch of shots for you. The new LED TV also features an updated version of Samsung’s Smart Hub software, while there’s even a built-in recorder for Freeview+ if you connect up some storage. Samsung is boasting it will have [...]

Review: Advance Tec AT-FX Tron

Intel’s new Z68 chipset has a lot to offer. In short, P67 and H67 functionality are combined onto one board, with SSD caching. It might not have a tremulous impact on gaming performance, but that increased functionality is surely welcome in any desktop PC. There’s also serious power saving potential with Lucidlogix’s Virtu software, which can turn your GPU practically off when it’s not needed. This is where AdvanceTec has made its first mistake: the ATFX-Tron doesn’t come with Lucid Virtu installed. Sure, you can install it yourself by digging out the motherboard’s [...]

iPad 2 Smart Cover

We can’t say we were expecting to be impressed by a case for the new iPad 2, but Apple’s pulled something of a surprise out its hat with its new Smart Covers for the tablet. Available in multiple colors and in your choice of polyurethane or leather variants, the covers attach to the iPad with a self-aligning magnetic hinge and can also be folded into a triangle and used as a stand. What’s more, they’ll automatically wake or put your iPad to sleep when you open or close the cover, and they even pack a microfiber lining that cleans your screen each time you flip it [...]

Download Samsung Smart Touch Android Remote App

Great news, channel surfers — Samsung’s Smart Touch Android remote application is now finally available in the Android Marketplace as a free download nearly nine months after originally launching on iOS. If you dropped a hefty quantity of cheddar on a new model C Samsung Internet TV in 2010 (those with older models are out of luck) and can’t wait for your Android handset to assimilate yet another life-task, today could be momentous. We say ‘could’ simply because our CES hands-on with the software wasn’t exactly swell — but then again, a massive trade [...]

Samsung’s PL90 Budget Camera Forgoes Cables With Inbuilt USB Connector

Cameras with inbuilt USB connectors are becoming increasingly more common, as manufacturers wake up and realize what the eff they were thinking. The PL90 is one of those fine contraptions, and with a pretty low price, too. Samsung’s cameras aren’t up to the standards of Panasonic’s or Canon’s, but at $150 it’s a nice entry-cam. It’s got a 12.2MP image sensor, with 4x optical zoom and a 2.7″ LCD screen. Capable of shooting video at 640 x 480 resolution and 15fps, it’s got the usual face detection and red-eye fix, along with Objective tracking [...]
