As we said when we first saw the Samsung D8000 Series Smart TV at CES back in January, Samsung’s new flagship TV line is nothing short of stunning.
And now at IFA 2011 the Korean manufacturer has produced a huge 60-inch version- the 60D8000 LED Smart TV complete with an ultra-thin 1.5cm bezel. It’s a truly impressive sight, so we thought we’d snap a bunch of shots for you.
The new LED TV also features an updated version of Samsung’s Smart Hub software, while there’s even a built-in recorder for Freeview+ if you connect up some storage.

Although LG’s passive 3D system has comprehensively proven its worth, at least where relatively compact screen sizes are concerned, it still comes as a slight relief to find that the brand’s 42LV550T doesn’t have 3D built in. It means there’s no need to have to get into the whole passive vs active 3D philosophical debate again, allowing this review to focus solely on the product itself rather than larger issues beyond it.

While LG’s 2011 HDTV lineup has been largely a success so far — we found a lot to like in the LW5600 we reviewed and quarterly earnings seem to justify its 3D and LED technology — some wouldn’t be satisfied without an LED backlit (rather than edge lit) option. That issue is solved now with the new LW9800 series, shown off here in Korea as the LW980S. Announced in two sizes, 55- and 47-inches, both feature “Nano LED” local dimming with as many as 2,300 sources in the larger one and 480Hz motion technology.
