Sony Ericsson Xperia Play finally gets HD video capture update

The Xperia Play’s incoming Android 2.3.4 update appears to add an extra nugget of functional goodness in the form of high-definition video-recording. What, the Xperia Play didn’t do so already? Nope, Sony Ericsson neglected to add that functionality to the phone’s five megapixel shooter from the start. Fortunately, the new software update rectifies this, so when you’re not blasting those PlayStation hits of yesteryear, you’ll be able to chronicle your pet’s adventures in crystal clear 720p. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S Hands On

Sony refreshed its arc line-up at IFA 2011, with the company announcing the Sony Xperia Arc S, a smartphone that has been given something of a speed injection – Sony is quoting speeds 25 per cent faster than its predecessor, the Sony Ericsson Arc. TechRadar managed to get a hands-on with the Xperia Arc S and were pleased with our first impressions of the device. brightcove : 1138084158001 In the hand, the Arc is a beautiful piece of kit. Given that the original Arc is still one of the best-designed Android devices around it’s good to see that not much has been changed from a chassis point [...]

Android update junkies are in for a treat from Sony Ericsson. The handset maker’s serving up the freshest batch of Gingerbread to its Xperia line of smartphones starting this October. Download Skype 2.0 for Android with two-way video calling for Nexus S, Desire S, Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro

The latest update to Skype’s Android application has just been rolled out and a big part of its goodie delivery is two-way video calling. Only a quartet of phones are supported right now: Google’s own Nexus S, HTC’s Desire S, and the Xperia Neo and Pro from Sony Ericsson, all handsets that shipped with Android 2.3 installed. We suspect the rest of the Android world won’t be far behind — Thunderbolt users will surely be wondering why they’re not included in this first batch — but for now it’s just that fearsome foursome. Also included in Skype [...]

Sony Ericsson’s Android Bootloader Unlocking Site

As promised, Sony Ericsson has just flipped the switch for its Android bootloader unlocking service, meaning those with an unbranded Xperia device from 2011 and onwards — Play, Arc, Neo, and Pro so far — will be able to try out custom ROMs and other dirty mods with ease. All that’s required here is your phone’s IMEI number, which in return gives you the unlocking key to go with the Android SDK’s fastboot program — all will be clear once you’ve read the instructions at the source link. But remember: SE does warn that this service may void your warranty [...]

Samsung Galaxy S II (Video)

One of the worst-kept secrets of MWC this year — the Galaxy S II — is finally official, and we’d say it definitely lives up to its name as a proper successor to the original Galaxy S that lit the Android marketplace on fire last year. Major (and largely expected) features include a 4.27-inch 800 x 480 Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8 megapixel primary camera with 1080p video capture accompanied by a 2 megapixel cam up front, Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4.0, integrated NFC support (on some versions), and a shell measuring just 8.49mm thick, making it likely the thinnest smartphone [...]

Sony Ericsson made Xperia Play official in Super Bowl Commercial

Sony Ericsson has finally stopped teasing, winking, and nodding knowingly and has just come clean — the Xperia Play is most definitely real and it’ll be one of the first devices announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We’re treated to a date and time, February 13th at 6PM GMT, a pair of full frontal shots of the Gingerbread-running, gamepad-wearing smartphone, and the full version of that creepy ad we saw for it a couple of days back. Missed it on the Super Bowl? Scope it out after the break.
