In Depth: Is the iPad Apple’s greatest folly?

There have been several factors that have kept Apple (and its fan base) alive, not least of which is the design of its products. Apple is synonymous with cool gadgets, and this is due in no small part to one Jonathon Ive, who has been responsible for the design of the iMac, iPod and iPhone to name but a few. He’s also the man behind the svelte styling of the latest addition to the Apple stables, the unfortunately-named iPad. This isn’t too surprising given that the iPad is essentially a super-sized rendition of the iPhone, with a smattering of bells and whistles to make it more relevant [...]

‘One of a kind children’s car’ is like a $25,000 Power Wheels buggy gone crazy

Well, here’s something that would go perfect with that $20,000 iPad we showed you earlier — a one-of-a-kind mini-Ferrari designed just for kids. It seats two, and even has a respectable 80cc Honda engine powering it. It’s only $25,000, too, which makes it more than affordable for its target audience of knee-biters, provided they mow lawns until their hair is down to their ankles. Even if you’re not a kid, the car is a genuine collector’s piece. From the dealer: This is a one of a kind children’s car built in Germany for the premiere opening of the first Ferrari [...]

Hands-On with Microsoft’s Arc Keyboard

We weren’t too impressed by Microsoft’s Arc Mouse, finding its anemic shape a bit awkward. The recently announced Arc Keyboard maintains the same curved aesthetics as its mouse counterpart, but doesn’t deviate as much from traditional keyboard designs. We were able to get our hands on one from sister magazine MacLife to try out for an afternoon. Intended for use on lapboards or on tiny workspaces, the Arc Keyboard is efficiently compact. While its key arrangement is full-sized, the keyboard is just barely one foot wide. It’s also very light (weighing less than a pound), [...]

The iPad Is Like Holding The Future. But Only Because I Graduated From iPhone School.

When the iPhone first launched in 2007 I was sure I wasn’t going to buy one. Then I played with one. 15 minutes later I was $600 poorer. It was arguably the best tech purchase I’ve ever made. After the Apple event today, I got a chance to play with the new iPad for quite a bit of time. My takeaway? The thing is beautiful and fast. Really fast. If you’ll excuse my hyperbole, it felt like I was holding the future. But is it a must-have? That’s a complicated question. The quick and dirty answer is: for many people, right now, no. Unlike the iPhone, which filled an already [...]

Beezag Raises $2.5 Million, Force-Feeds Video Ads In Exchange For Cash

An old idea applied to a whole new generation and its bag of fresh tools. That’s how you could describe Beezag, a service from the eponymous New York startup, that was launched in private beta a couple of months ago. Dubbed a ‘real-time targeted video advertising service’ by the company, Beezag’s business model is basically to force-feed young adults with video ads in exchange for cash and coupons (which is not to say it won’t work; more on that later). And they’ve just raised over $2.5 million (on top of an earlier $750k founding round) from a group of angel [...]
