If the powerful Z-series is the big brother of the Sony VAIO family, then the updated Sony VAIO C-series is definitely the attractive cousin.
We originally reviewed the VAIO C Series at the start of this month, but that iteration was packing a Core i5 processor and dedicated graphics. Now we have our hands on the more affordable VAIO-VPC-CA2Z0E Core i3 version.
Available in a choice of five different colours, this mid-level lifestyle laptop has a number of features that make it worth a look if you’re tired of the same old black or silver design of other machines.
Our review unit was a bright [...]
While the cost of desktop computing has been driven down over the course of many years, there’s one area that seems unaffected – all-in-one PCs. The nature of the niche these machines fall into means that they never seem to become popular enough to bring the price down.
The Sony Vaio L Series is the Japanese firm’s latest stab at this expanding market and it comes in two powerful derivatives – the VPC-L21S1E and VPC-L21M1E – the latter of which we’re focusing on here.
The S1E costs just under £1,500, while the M1E is a touch more down-to-earth at £1,200.
A touch of overkill? [...]
Few months back, we did the unboxing of the VAIO P. However, since then, we did not ever published its full review. We have criticized VAIO P heavily (see THIS), but we need to understand one fact that is VAIO P is a crop of its own.
Anyway, been using VAIO P from past few months, I am now fully aware of its pros and cons. Now, how is the immediate out of box experience. To be honest, you immediately feel its slowness as soon as you take it out of the box. It took it 30 minutes to take me to the desktop! Then, even after the desktop was loaded, it was very slow.
This forced me to do a clean [...]

This thing is slim! Slimmest, may be, but certainly the lightest 10-inch+ netbook/notebook. So, what makes it so light? Well, one of the main contributing factors which [...]
Sony’s VAIO F-Series is a relatively new release and comprises midrange multimedia machines. The VAIO VPC-F11M1E/H is not the best looking machine but, like the Samsung R780, offers great value for money in terms of performance, and is also a great laptop for watching Blu-ray movies on.
This is due to the impressive widescreen display. It may not be the brightest, but the 1920 x 1080-pixel Full HD resolution provides razor-sharp images. Colours are excellent, with contrast really impressing and, consequently, Blu-ray movies look amazing.
However, the high resolution, when combined with [...]
Sony has made two additions to its Vaio E series of laptops, with a 14 inch and 17 inch version complete with Quick Web Access and ATI Mobility Radeon 5000 series graphics.
Sony recently launched the E series with a 15 inch laptop, but has chosen to add to the colourful range.
The computers are pitched as ‘perfect for everyday browsing, blogging or simply enjoying your digital media collection’.
Specs
The 14 inch Vaio VPCEA1Z1E comes with up to 4GB DDR3RAM, ‘supersharp’ 1600×900, 16:9 screen and is available in white, pink, blue or green.
The laptop has a Blu-ray [...]
The Sony Vaio VPC-EB1SOE/WI is a new laptop targeted at the average consumer. Boasting an all new chassis design, the laptop impressed us with the level of performance, portability and usability available at such a decent price point.
The 15.5-inch, 1366 x 768-pixel resolution display is typically bright and sharp, making viewing photos and videos a pleasure. Colour reproduction is also good, although colours are not as deep as we’ve seen on other Sony models.
The new chassis design is very attractive, and the mock metal and white plastic finish look great, although the subtle glittery [...]
An eco ethos has certainly latched on to the whole of the technology industry of late, with Sony the latest CE company to announce its green-friendly laptop – the Sony Vaio W Series.
Now if the W Series sounds familiar, don’t fret as it is. The series was launched to much fanfare by Sony last year and this newly announced update is no different apart from some ecological tweaks.
For a start, the laptop no longer comes in a box but a bag. And not just any bag but one which is made from recycled plastic which saves on CO2 emissions in production. So far so green.
The Sony Vaio W series’ [...]
Sony’s recently announced VAIO L Series touchscreen PC is a thing of beauty. A stunner of a flat-screen all-in-one multimedia computer that doubles up as a HDTV.
Does it have the raw processing grunt and enough must-have new features to justify its £1300 price tag? There are plenty of far cheaper all-in-ones (or net-tops) already flooding the market, for around half that price.
Big and beautiful
You’d be hard-pushed to question the L Series’ drop dead gorgeous looks. The highlight is the glorious 24-inch widescreen X-black LCD touchscreen that’s fantastic for showing off your pictures, [...]
The Vaio X, aside from being thin and light, is notoriously difficult to mod — simply put, there’s not much room in there to play around! Besides, when you’ve spent well over a grand for a machine, you’re not necessarily going to be gung-ho about digging in with your soldering gun.
Still, when InsanelyMac forum member Asama was struck by inspiration (in the form of a Vaio P OS X image) he followed his heart — and, much to the world’s amusement, it installed on the Vaio X with few complications. Sure, it wasn’t a flawless operation: the WiFi card is [...]
