We just got some very, very sad news. Steve Jobs has passed away. As confirmed on Apple’s site, Mr. Jobs has died at the age of 56 after recently stepping down from the position of CEO and naming Tim Cook his successor. Steve has had a profound effect on the world of technology, both at Apple and through his many other endeavors. Our thoughts go out to his family.
Update: All Things D has posted a memo sent out by Tim Cook to Apple employees stating that there will be an internal celebration to honor Steve’s life soon. Those words can be found after the break, along with statements [...]
Facebook has announced a host of improvements to the way your friends are grouped on the site.
The new Smart Lists feature automatically pulls together your work friends, old school pals and those in the same locale, based in the information you include in your profile.
The Smart Lists are automatically collated by Facebook, but you’ll also have the opportunity to edit as you see fit.
There’s also opportunity to blot out those annoying acquaintances by only viewing updates from your close friends list, meaning you see less of the stragglers.

We all know how versatile and powerful today’s smartphones are, with numerous games and apps showing off their fun sides.
But what about the boring stuff? What about when you really need to edit potentially libellous statements out of a Word document in a hurry?
Android has a wealth of productivity tools at its disposal, ranging from free and simple text editors and “to do” lists up to impressively feature-packed and rather costly suites of document management apps that promise PowerPoint and Excel editing on your mobile.
Official options are a little lacking, though. There’s [...]

A really small act is able to cheer you up and increase your productivity: changing your desktop wallpaper at least once a month. And that’s simply because no one likes to fall into a daily routine (even with such a small thing), and if you keep the same wallpaper for too long, you’ll just get bored.
Thinking about that, I’ve selected 35 gorgeous black wallpapers from my favorite websites. Some are photographs, some a illustrations, some are renders. But all of them will most definetely inscrease your satisfaction during work hours. So here’s my selection, I hope you enjoy [...]
At work we have several websites that we develop with Plone, but each year we make a new version and we want to keep an archive of the old version.
Since it takes a lot of memory to keep a Zope instance for these old websites that probably won’t need to be edited ever again, it makes sense to make a static copy of the website. It also eliminates the work needed to update the instance when security patches come out (and eliminates security risks, in cases of old versions that are no more maintained).
There are some tools that can help in this case; I chose to use wget, which is available [...]

Nowadays porting Android 3.x Honeycomb on different tablets is perhaps the hottest trend. This all started when Honeycomb made a hacked appearance on Barnes and Nobles Nook Color, and since then there is no stopping of this Honeycomb awesomeness being embraced by different tablets. Of course it took lots of hackery and some outstanding coding skills to make this happen and all credit for this goes to Android developers at different portals, forums and blogs. Most of these Honeycomb ports for different Android tablets have been consistently coming from XDA, and Toshiba Folio 100 isn’t [...]
Explanation: Netflix officially realeased for 5 devices because those are the ones that the devs tested with. They knew there would be issues with untested devices (fcs, crashes, no video/sound, etc) so they coded the app to refuse to play on anything but the tested 5. All this hack does is circumvents that restriction by making the app think you are on one of the supported ones. There some devices which seem to work fine with the app but were never tested by the devs. Such devices as the nook color, the LG optimus S/V. These work perfectly after this while others still may have problems.
