The UK’s 3G networks average 2.04MB across the country according to statistics released by mobile phone comparison website top10.com
The site created an application capable of measuring 3G speeds across every street in the UK in an effort to try and establish which areas provide the best 3G coverage. It has resulted in a steadily growing mobile speed-map of the UK, showing which networks were fastest and where.
The application has also collected an average speed across the UK for each individual network.
In the battle for 3G speeds Vodafone emerges triumphant with a 3.04 MB average, closely followed by 02 and Orange at 2.61 MB. Three aren’t far behind with a 1.48 MB average ending finally with T-Mobile at 1.40 MB.
Given the number of smartphones currently on the market and the increased load on mobile phone networks, a lot of areas now have slow mobile data. Crucial to any high-end mobile phone is a speedy network, without which users may not enjoy the full benefits of their handset. Things like streaming music and video while on the go can become increasingly difficult particularly in areas that are very slow.
